what are the JW rules once baptised??
by Kate82 inon my other post 'thinking of becoming a jw' people mentioned that once i was baptised i would be told / given rules of what i can / cant do, things like: how i act, dress, how i can have sex with my husband??
what i can and cant eat ( according to some research ive done).
i would be really interested to hear as many of these rules now - as i think its too late after one is baptised.. i would be grateful of as many as possible about anything any topic even thouse i havent mentioned.. thanks x.

Also to go further with whtahappened's post there is well known experience of a circuit overseer that held up the bible. Years ago the jw bible was green. He said, "brothers, if the watchtower tells you that this bible is red...then brothers, IT IS RED!!
edit: wow!!! I hadn't noticed that cofty already wrote this!!! You can see how we'll known it was, huh?

Let me write this before a jw apologist does. They will say that every rule they have is based on bible principles. They will give you a reason for each rule. The problem is that this is what the Pharisees of the Jews did too. God said to observe the sabbath and not work on that day. So the Pharisees took that and created hundreds of rules as to what constituted "work". Jesus condemned them and said that they weighed people down with all their rules. Jesus preached true Christian freedom. The wt does not and imitates the Jews of Jesus time in their hundreds of rules that involve literally EVERY aspect of your life.
The fact is, there are so many rules it is literally impossible to list them all.

It's time I face the truth about my belief in God.
by Cagefighter ini don't beleive in him, at least not like most christians do.
as some have described before the "sky daddy" version of god has not been able to be rationalized by cagefighter's brain for some time.. does this mean i don't believe in a divine power/entity?
does this mean i do not consider my self a christian?

Cage fighter, I read some things in your post that I've never really thought about before. It was beautiful. While I disagree on some things, I loved the post. The point you made about the worlds intlligence level and what would happen if everyone just started living only to make themselves happy is a very strong plus in the argument that Jesus and his teachings are important. A guardrail like you said. wONDERFUL post!!!

Need some help!!!!! ***URGENT***
by sinis inmy wifes mother recently passed away, and it has devastated my wife.
the family, who are not witnesses, but out of respect for the deceased, and who was a jw, had the ceremony at the kingdum hell, which almost made me throw up... last time i ever step foot in that place.
i felt like a vampire on the threshold of a church, as i looked into the interior hall feeling my skin burn and start to smoke... anyways, as i have posted on here before a friend of my wife, has in the past, sent her (my wife) emails about going back to the kingdumb hell.

Protect your family at all costs. This is your wife's weakest moments and can either bring her closer to the watchtower or push her away. I would act accordingly.

Why are atheists so intent on scorning "believers"?
by Chariklo inuntil recently, i had never encountered this word "believers" used as it is being used on this board, to describe pejoratively a group of people.
it's not clear to me whether they scorn all who have a faith of some sort.
do they include buddhists, hindus, followers of the baha'i faith, followers of the cargo cult, native americans along with christians, or is it just christians who are honoured with this epithet?.

you will be safe with JW's, but not with non-jws or apostates, who have been corrupted.
Kate, it's important to understand where JWs are coming from. They are terrified of "apostates". That is why they are told not to come to sites like these. Si1 has been told NOT to come and comment on sites like these. Yet she does so anyway.
The statement that she made is telling. They view everyone that leaves the JW organization as "mentally diseased" (their words, not mine). As far as danger goes, there are few organizations that could be MORE dangerous. One reason for this is that it looks SO good from the outside. Before you are baptized you think, "Why do people stay away from this religion? It's THE TRUTH!!!"
As was discussed before, there are inner doctrines, and outer doctrines. The outer doctrines are what you learn about before getting baptized. The innter ones are the ones that would scare you away, so they hide them until you get baptized.
What are some inner doctrines? Here's a few:
1. 8 men in Brooklyn have ULTIMATE authority over you and your beliefs. You are required to obey and believer EVERYTHING that they say
2. If your family is not a JW, you are to limit your association with them. You can "preach" to them, but it is not recommended to have much association with them as "Bad association spoils your useful habits". If any of your family was a JW and leave, you may never speak to them ever again. This includes friends as well
3. There are rules about literally every aspect of your life. If you are married, there are rules about what sorts of sex can and cannot be practiced by you and your husband. If you have children, they are not allowed to go to college. Etc...
4. Everything of this world is of the devil. You cannot vote. You cannot run for any office. You cannot discuss political matters. You cannot contribute to charities such as the Red Cross or the Salvation Army. This also effects your employment. If you deliver pepsi or coke, you cannot work a route that mainly delivers to military bases.
5. You cannot have anythingn to do with any other religion. This includes not doing any work for any religion. If you own a security company, you cannot install a security system for a church. You cannot do Yoga. You cannot read anything or watch anything that has to do with God that is not produced by the 8 men in Brooklyn.
Thos are just a few. There are literally HUNDREDS of other rules governing EVERY aspect of your life. That is why we here call them a "high control group".
What you will find out if you continue talking to them is that they do not think they are being controlled. They will also tell you that EVERY ONE of their rules is based on the Bible. This is not true.
Please continue to do your research. Please watch this video in full. It's important. It's old, but accurate regarding the history of Jehovah's Witnesses (aka the Watchtower).

Can we look at FAITH in a more practical way?
by Terry inbelief is spackle.
you can't see the crack in your thinking when you exercise faith.
consequently, a person of faith can not, must not, will not allow others the option of non-binary references.. .

Thanks Nicolaou! I do take that as a HUGE compliment. Was little toe the guy that da'd during his public talk?

Unless of course you really do have some evidence . . . . ?
I do. But I'm not telling.
Much as it is rejected by those that haven't experienced it, and have a scientific explanation of why I shouldn't rely on it, personal experience is a proof to me. Yes it is MY proof, and it is subjective. It isn't a single event or feeling. It is a series of events, refelections, and responses that I have seen in my life. But they are mine. Nothing that I say in that regard is going to convince anyone. In fact they will say that scientifically one cannot rely on personal experience. And I accept that for you to not give my own life experiences any validation for God's existance. It would be strange if it did.
That isn't my only evidence that I rely on to formulate my views on God. Of course not. It's something I consider, but there is much more that causes me to believe in a higher intelligence. I've posted some of these here, and will do so in the future. But as has been brought out many times, I can't prove to you that God exists. You can't prove to me that God does not exist. So we are at an impass.
That being said, I know all the reasons that are given of why I can't trust my reasons for believing in God. And I can give you all the reasons that I have for why I don't think it's reasonable to reject belief in God.
Many times it is not until an important life event happens and a person can't explain it, that they start to entertain the idea of God. Of course every other person besides the experiencer will give them reasons as to why they are wrong and why it CAN be explained or that they are unreasonable.
